Sandy Bay
SURF SAND SWIM
Sandy Bay, also known as Coney Beach, is a wide, sandy, and gently sloping beach. Looking south from near the centre of the town of Porthcawl there are views out onto the Bristol Channel.
The beach is wide, but there can be several hundred metres of sand separating the surf and the promenade behind the beach at low tide. It is a popular spot for surfing and swimming and is backed by an amusement arcade.
At the eastern end of the beach there is a small headland, with many rock pools that can be explored at low tide for signs of marine wildlife.
To the west of the beach is the Eastern Promenade, leading down to the harbour and lighthouse, with views out over the bay. A short walk beyond the harbour, visitors will find the centre of Porthcawl, with many shops, places to stay, places to eat, and an interesting museum about the history of the town.
Newton Beach
WIND SURF BOAT CLUB DOG FRIENDLY
Newton is the most easterly beach at Porthcawl and is a ten minute walk from the picturesque village of Newton. This beach is sandy and rocky and popular with windsurfers, jet skiers and power boat users. There is a slipway which is used by the local boat club. With miles of sand (although very rocky in parts), you can walk to the river mouth at Ogmore; it is next to Newton Burrows and Merthyr Mawr dunes.
